Long tail keyword

We use more and more words when we search for something on Google to get a more specific answer. This combination of multiple words is called logn tail keywords.

What is a long tail keyword?

A few years ago, we went to Google mainly with monosyllabic words to start a search for what we were looking for. For example, "sneakers". This is called a short tail keyword, which is the opposite of a long tail keyword.

As our habits and technology have changed, we now use more words in a search to get a more specific answer. And it's this collection of keywords that we call long tail keywords.

Examples of long tail keywords :

  • White sneakers women flatfoot
  • How to get a consumer loan on the day?
  • HR system for medium-sized businesses
  • Week menu for family of 5 vegetarian

The long tail principle in SEO:

The organic competition for long-tail keywords is often lower than short-tail, because it is a more specific search. The more specific a search is, the fewer people search for it. However, the searcher is often closer to a purchase when they use more specific keywords. Therefore, it can be very relevant to specifically target long tail searches in your industry online.
