What is communication?
Communication is a broad concept that is used in many different contexts. Overall, we can define communication as a process in which information, thoughts, and ideas are transferred between a sender and a receiver. It involves not only words, but also body language, tone of voice, and so on.
In addition, communication can take place in many different ways, ranging from verbal and written to visual and digital. The goal of communication is usually to convey a message by exchanging information. With the right communication, you can build relationships, influence actions, solve problems, and achieve mutual understanding.
What is effective communication?
The word “communication” is usually perceived as something positive. When communication is in place – whether in a private relationship or in workplace relations – most things tend to work well. But communication can also be poor. Let’s look at the difference between good and bad communication:
Good communication is characterized by clear, precise, and explicit messages that reach the recipient. The ideal situation is that what the sender wants to convey and get across is understood by the recipient. Poor communication, on the other hand, can be marked by confusion, misunderstandings, and conflicts. The reasons this happens can be many, but it often comes down to the message not being understood, a lack of openness for dialogue, or insufficient consideration for each other’s opinions and needs.
