What is remarketing?
Remarketing, also known as retargeting, is a technique in digital advertising where ads are targeted to relevant audiences based on their previous online behavior. The full name of the technique is therefore "behavioral remarketing/retargeting”.
How does remarketing work?
Remarketing gives you a unique opportunity to market to users who have already shown interest in your products/services. In short, retargeting works by storing a cookie in the user’s browser when they visit your website – and as they continue to visit different websites, you can target ads to them wherever they are.
You’ve probably experienced that after looking at a product once, you suddenly see ads for that product or brand everywhere? That’s remarketing! As you’ve likely noticed yourself, feeling chased by ads is an unfortunate side effect of remarketing and can have the opposite effect of what you want to achieve. But, when remarketing is used correctly, it can create opportunities for highly targeted and profitable advertising.
To ensure your ads deliver the best possible results, they should be tailored — with messaging and timing adapted to the user’s behavior when they visited your website. You should always have a clear plan when you choose to use remarketing; when used correctly, this type of marketing can provide valuable insights and strong results.
