Communication
Communication is something we all do and relate to - consciously or unconsciously. But what exactly defines communication, and what is the difference between good and bad communication?
What is communication?
Communication is a broad term used in many different contexts. Overall, we can define communication as a process in which information, thoughts and ideas are transferred between a sender and a receiver. It involves not only words, but also body language, tone of voice, etc.
In addition, communication can take place in many different ways; everything from oral and written, to visual and digitally. The goal of communication is usually to convey a message by exchanging information. With the right communication, you can build relationships, influence actions, solve problems and achieve common understanding.
What is good communication?
The word "communication" is usually seen as something positively charged. If communication is in place - whether it's in a private or workplace relationship - most things are fine. But communication can also be bad. Let's look at the difference between good and bad communication:
Good communication is characterized by clear, precise and distinct messages that reach the recipient. The ideal situation is that what the sender wants to convey and get across is understood by the recipient. Poor communication, on the other hand, can be characterized by confusion, misunderstandings and conflicts. There are many reasons why this can happen, but often it's because the message isn't understood, there's no openness to dialog or there's a lack of consideration for each other's opinions and needs.
