What is TikTok?
Similar to Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat, TikTok is an app that functions as a social platform. TikTok is designed for users to share short videos they have created themselves, typically featuring music and other entertaining elements. On TikTok, it has become common to create your own versions of other users’ videos, for example a dance, funny audio clips or “pranks”. In other words, trending and copying are part of what TikTok is all about.
Why is TikTok so popular?
Even though not everyone has been equally enthusiastic, the app has grown tremendously here in Norway in recent years – especially among younger audiences. TikTok offers fast and easily accessible entertainment, tailored to each account’s individual interests. The platform is designed so that videos can go viral and spark trends – and it really works.
You’ve probably heard the expressions TikTok dance, TikTok song or TikTok pasta. These are recipes, choreographies or songs that someone has shared on TikTok, and that have gained a lot of attention. In other words, TikTok is where trends are created – what we would call a TikTok trend.
